Getting started
Float is an automated worksheet marking tool for primary teachers. Upload photos of handwritten worksheets and get personalised, curriculum-aligned feedback for every pupil in minutes.
Upload worksheets for your class, and Float transcribes the handwriting, identifies which curriculum standards the work demonstrates, and generates structured feedback. You review everything before printing or sharing.
Each worksheet you upload and process counts as one mark, whether it’s Quick Mark or batch marking a whole class.
A single worksheet takes around 30 seconds. A class set of 30 is usually done in a few minutes.
You always review the generated feedback before sharing. You can edit any feedback, score, or transcription. You can also compare the transcription against the original handwriting side by side.
Features
Yes — Float supports both maths and writing worksheets with subject-specific assessment grids. Maths marking understands working and method, not just answers.
Yes. Choose from 4 feedback frameworks (WWW/EBI, Two Stars & a Wish, Glow & Grow, Tick & Target), 4 tones (Encouraging, Academic, Direct, Early Years), and 3 lengths. Set defaults per class or override per assignment.
Yes. Float identifies spelling mistakes and common usage errors like there/their/they’re, highlights them in the transcription, and builds a per-pupil spelling profile over time.
Every pupil gets a profile with curriculum standards attainment, a score timeline, trend arrows, work history, and spelling patterns. You can see at a glance who’s improving and who needs support.
Yes. Float analyses all of a pupil’s marked work to produce summative reports with strengths, areas for development, proficiency levels, and whether they’re on track.
Print feedback slips in multiple layouts (full page, half, or quarter). You can also copy individual feedback to clipboard for pasting into school report systems.
Curriculum & assessment
England (DfE frameworks), Scotland (CfE benchmarks), Wales, Northern Ireland, and Ireland. Year groups from Reception and Junior Infants through to Year 7 and P7.
Built-in grids are aligned to each nation’s curriculum framework with proficiency levels appropriate to each — WTS/EXS/GDS for England, Developing/Consolidating/Secure for Scotland, and equivalents for other nations.
Yes. For every piece of work, Float identifies which specific standards the pupil’s writing or maths demonstrates — for example WTS1 or EXS3 in England. You can review and edit these per submission, and they’re tracked cumulatively on each pupil’s profile across the whole term.
Photos from your phone camera or uploaded JPEGs and PNGs. Multi-page worksheets are supported for longer pieces of work.
SEND support
Tag pupils with any of 16 SEND need types, including dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, EAL, SEMH, FSM, and Looked After Children. Float automatically adapts feedback — for example, focusing on content over spelling for dyslexic pupils.
Float quietly watches for patterns across a pupil’s work that might suggest undiagnosed needs — like consistent letter reversals or phonetic spelling. It flags observations for you to discuss with your SENCO.
Yes. Set individual targets per pupil, mark them as active or achieved, and Float references them in feedback. You can also log provisions and interventions.
Yes. Generate evidence-based summative reports suitable for EHCP annual reviews, with a dedicated SENCO audience setting focused on measurable progress.
Class management
Add pupils individually or import from a CSV spreadsheet. Set your year group, curriculum, and feedback defaults. You can manage multiple classes.
Yes. Set feedback framework, tone, and length at the class level. Every assignment inherits these defaults. Override at assignment level when you need to.
Archive classes and students. Their data stays safe for reference, but your dashboard stays focused on your current classes.
